This kind of thing is always a good idea. I once heard that the only verified way to improve your sense of well-being is to be sure to periodically think about what makes you feel grateful.
I wonder how the asteroid would be "gone". I know that those predictions are hard to make far in advance since a close call might disrupt the orbital path of an asteroid in an unpredictable way. It is kind of neat to see how many things in the sky are actually being tracked (including how many of them are bits or trash/debris from earlier space missions which are whipping around the Earth at dangerous speeds).
