Refreshing video from Veronica Explains: "I stream nothing, and I am happy."
I just happened to notice this video and I think it is great (linked in context).

Of course, that is just because I rarely hear someone clearly articulate much of what I have been saying/thinking for a while now.

I have also been on the hunt for physical media for much of the same reasons and she has some tooling suggestions which are interesting.

On a lightly-related note, today's Steam hardware announcement was impressive and it looks like they aren't doing any show-stopping lock-in or user control on these systems. It is also refreshing to see a company use the best tools for the job, instead of insisting that standardization is the only answer to complex problems. Not only are they continuing to push forward with their Linux-based x86 desktop gaming PCs but now they have an ARM64 variant of their distro for their self-contained VR headset.

It is strange that everyone else is so fixated on controlling users while Valve, a relatively small company in the space, is just interested in serving them and is getting very good at it.

Sure, I am unlikely to buy any of the hardware, and I am always wary of using Steam for everything (they aren't doing anything anti-consumer now, but that could always change in the future), but I have been consistently impressed with Valve on technical and consumer levels.

So, at least there is some good news out in the world,
Jeff.
