"Safe" Nihilism
I think I am going to try to stay away from FetLife, now. I had moved here for most of my writing (leaving only some "screaming into the void" or "contemplating relationships" there), but now I think I should just completely close that door.

I find that it is a good example of too much of what I dislike about the inauthentic and skin-deep nature of modern communication on the internet. There is nothing personal, profound, or even challenging to convention, anymore. In a world where saying the wrong thing can get you excommunicated from society, and potentially even threaten your ability to make a living or build a life, it isn't surprising that we have reached this point.

So, this leads to an ever-shrinking pool of tediously repetitive ideas. All the ideas which exist must be approved by committee and various information control authorities (most of whom are just self-appointed perpetually-offended people). This means that there is nothing new to hear and anything new you say is met with silence or some lecture about how terrible a person you are for saying anything unexpected or unconventional.

In the end, this has led to an ever-present sense of nihilism. Everything is sanitized and heartless. Everyone is wrong and cursed with something akin to original sin, somehow. Every idea is dangerous. Sit in silence and keep your thoughts, dreams, and especially your questions bottled up... forever. Somehow, this is "good" or "making the world better", but all I see is anger and misery unless you look at someone who avoids those spaces.

So, I think I will avoid them, too.

Luckily, such decay would not play out so easily in a place like this,
