So, that made for a strange couple of days. Sometime Saturday afternoon, the network stopped responding. This isn't too unusual since the router tends to lock up a couple of times per week (I think it has trouble dealing with IPFS - this problem started happening after I started running that). What was unusual is that a power cycle didn't fix it.
So, I had to make a bunch of calls which eventually led to a Bell tech dropping by Sunday morning, who was able to figure out that the line wasn't connected - said it seemed to only be sending a signal about 21 metres, implying that it was broken. The tech assumed it was probably accidentally cut during some kind of renovation lower in the building.
Tuesday morning, 2 other techs dropped by to fix this, potentially re-running a new line. However, they first spent some time diagnosing the problem and managed to find the issue: Someone had been painting so they removed the face plate (which makes sense) but then also decided to cut the copper wires (which is wrong, but they also cut all the wires in the wall, not just the pair attached to the jack).
So, the techs managed to fix those, saying it was a good thing the fibre wasn't cut since they wouldn't be able to fuse it and still fit in the space constraints of the wall (hence, they would have had to re-run that).
Anyway, this means that everything was back up and running by around noon, Tuesday.
All in all, aside from the cause of the problem, everyone else in the story worked quite effectively.
While offline, I was without distractions which made me slightly more insane (especially since I was worried about my infrastructure being offline - E-Mail, web, etc), but did mean that I got some good work done on October Project (came up with a simpler way of doing time-based operations which I have since implemented). I also was relieved (and surprised, given how things tend to be) to find that Steam doesn't require an active connection so I did spend some time playing Oxygen Not Included.
Now, back to your usual scheduled nonsense,
