This "band of misfits" was more me thinking in terms of Robin Hood. I guess I am looking for my Sherwood Forest, where the questionable authorities of the outside world have little power.
You are right about mainstream culture and my wording was very confusing. It is about telling people to care about "everything", but only things which allow for superficial judgments and to facilitate tribalism, not to actually do anything. It seems like people care very little about things which actually impact their lives. I was thinking about how it is becoming increasingly common for organizations to demand personal information for increasingly trivial reasons (look at the UK where being so compromised is now law) and how any "boycott" in response is just them complaining instead of saying that they refuse to participate (not just to try to manipulate, but forever, based on principle - a true "boycott" should never end via anything other than victory as it is a sacrifice you will happily make).
I think that all of these musings are further along the lines of my thoughts that I have a lot to lose and nothing to gain through continued existence, while this sense of powerlessness is ever-growing. This is an unsettling baseline thought. Thanks for putting up with me.
