It seems like the nearby Canadian Blood Services building isn't booked solid for the next month (finally) so I decided to drop by since I haven't donated in about a year. I was waiting on my new donor card, which never came, but now seems like it was being sent to a very old address (not sure how they got that). Hopefully it will correctly arrive, this time.
Anyway, this went smoothly, as it typically does. I guess I can go back for more in about 2 months.
My life is pretty boring, these days, so I really have no reason not to go more often. I saw a poster there claiming that only 7% of the population is O- so that is even more reason (and being the universal donor type makes it seem like an extra-good idea).
Apparently, Canada covers its needs for most blood products, through donations, except for plasma. Given that you can do plasma-only donations more often, they are slowly rolling that capacity out to more locations, but it is also far more time consuming (apparently about 1.5 hours instead of 10-15 minutes) and they want to book it all in advance. I figure that, so long as my life remains boring and the nearby offices are not saturated, giving whole-blood donations a few times a year is probably pretty good.
