The speaker system attached to my main computer started acting up on Saturday afternoon. It seems to crackle loudly (seemingly on the right channel) and then the speakers turn off.
At first, I thought I correlated this to a software issue but that turned out not to be the case (so much for my 513 day uptime).
I opened the subwoofer to take a look at where the amp for the system is but nothing looked dirty or broken (in fact, the internals looked to be in perfect shape despite ~15 years of age).
All I know is that it seems to happen after 5-30 minutes, longer if I haven't used it in a while. I suspect that there is a contact or component which is failing as it heats up. Not sure how to find that or fix it, though.
I am hesitant to replace this when it seems like it _should_ be something which could be repaired, if I knew a little more (although I might need a very specific component or a soldering iron).
Not sure what I plan to do about that,
