I tried out the online bipolar support group yesterday and it was grueling. Nearly 2 and a half hours of listening to people in various points of recovery from the illness made me realize I may be depressed at times because of my situation, but I sure as hell aren't bipolar anymore (or at least having symptoms - thank you Abilify)
The best thing I got out of it was briefly a guy spoke who has a computer programming background and who was talking about getting his Ph.D. in Neuroscience.
He was talking about cochlear implants and artificial limbs excitedly, the same way you were a couple weeks ago, Jeff. I would have loved for him to speak longer but I asked him on chat how he got into his career and he said you can try www.neurotechx.com for jobs in the field some require just a computer programming degree, if you haven't heard of it. I obviously didn't go into this with this intention. Take it or leave it, I just found that interesting. I don't think I'll be joining this group anymore though as my writing group is at the same time each week, and I also found a field instructor's course for some professional development of my own. It was just a coincidence.
