The modern push to require "verification" is something which always worries me.
On a philosophical level, many of the cultural ideas we now consider essential started with people speaking out anonymously so I think making that impossible is a dead-end idea.
On a more immediate level, I always wonder who is held accountable when the private data used for verification is eventually leaked/stolen (because it _always_ is, on a long enough timeline - information isn't self-protecting).
