Overall, the changes required for "the animation update" (OctoberPeaks 1.10) are going well. The particle engine works well (I just need to use more of it in the polish phase) and the entity walking animations seem to be working well enough (I was worried that this approach would be terrible for performance but seems ok - and will be reconsidered in the following update).

Really, the remaining changes require that fire is implemented in some reasonable visual way (not just a "red crack texture" on the block) and then I need to consider if any blocks should have an animated texture on them.

After those are done, I really just need to add more aggressive use of the particle engine, add some missing sounds, and make sure that the various animation timings seem reasonable.

Still, these next items require both some design consideration and some texture creation work, so not yet an open-and-shut case.

Overall, progressing a little more smoothly than I had anticipated,
